Nature scavenger hunts are very simple activities and are loved by my young students.
But how does a nature scavenger hunt work? 🐌☘️
First, I provide each child with a sheet containing drawings of natural objects or little creatures that can be found in the surroundings.
For example, if we’re in a garden, I’ll ask them to find a daisy, a butterfly, a twig, a snail, and so on. As they spot these objects, they can colour or mark them with an X on the paper. If they come across flowers, leaves, or pebbles, we can even decide to collect and keep them. It’s a delightful way to explore the outdoors!
To reinforce the vocabulary they've learned, I have the children repeat the names of what we've found in English. Depending on their English level and age, I also ask questions like, "Can you describe it? What color is it? Is it big or small?" etc.
This activity can be done almost anywhere, even at the beach or in the garden!
Have fun! 🌈
