Today, we’ll see how to create a shadow projector using our beloved toilet paper roll. It’s a simple, fun, and highly versatile idea. In the past, I’ve made quite a few of these, and they’re great for teaching English words or even creating stories.
What we’ll explore today is dedicated to the alphabet letters. If you have children who are learning the alphabet, this idea could be a winner because I can assure you they’ll have a blast seeing the letters projected on the wall—it’s like magic!
First of all, here is the list of the material you will need to make your DIY Alphabet Projector:
A finished toilet paper roll.
An elastic band.
Transparent film.
A marker, preferably permanent.
A flashlight (the one on your phone works too).
First, wrap the film around one of the two ends of the roll.
Pull it tightly to avoid wrinkles and secure it with an elastic band.
Finally, write the first letter of the alphabet on the film. If you’d like, you can use as many rolls as there are letters in the alphabet, or change the film each time you want to display a new letter.
My advice is to have several rolls ready, each with its corresponding letter. However, if you don’t have enough, you can always remove the film and replace it with a new one, writing the other letters as needed.
Fun trick: instead of a marker, you can use nail polish, and transparent plastic bags work well as an alternative to the film!

Feel free to let me know what you’d like to project with your projector! The options are endless, from animals to creatures and cartoon characters, allowing you to create stories together with your little ones!
